There are two kinds of inflammatory bowel disease; ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Although not common they can be very severe and significantly affect people’s lives. Although we don’t know what causes them we do have effective treatments in the form of drugs and surgery. To diagnose them we need to perform a camera test (either a flexible sigmoidoscopy or a colonoscopy).
